Choking on the Milk of Human Kindness

Okay another musing from Moni on the state of our society. Well, maybe not a musing more like a rant. Yes another one. Whatever happened to the good old fashion concept of customer service? It seems that in today's society you really only get good customer service when you buy a high dollar item, ie, a car.

I get so tired of getting bad customer service. For instance, today I went to a certain chain of fast food restaurants. No, "Have a Nice Day," no "Thank you," not even an acknowledgement. What the hay?! I can go anywhere and clog my arteries. Isn't the little man paying $5.00 for a meal entitled to good customer service, as well as the man who pays $100.00?

And why is it that when I call my credit card company I have to go through a barrage of questions during which I have to shout answers into the phone to an electronic voice center. Only to be told, "I'm sorry did you say....?" "No electronic lady I said, "@#%$#$!!!" Then when an actual flesh and blood human being appears...I can't understand them any more than I could the electronic lady. I believe that America should be a melting pot, but if you can't speak the language, then don't get a job that entails talking! Huh?

Tell me how a bank can get away with charging a noncustomer a fee for cashing a check that's drawn on them in the first place. I always thought; and I worked at a bank, that a check drawn on the home bank could be cashed as long as it the account holder had the funds in their account. It's a demand draft for heaven's sake. Flim-flammery at it's finest.

Okay, I'll stop now, put on a Josh Groban(yowsa!) cd and meditate. lol

Customer service is a dead art in America, but the few organizations that get it right rise to the top. I stayed at a four star hotel once, and what an amazing difference the experience is. The place treated me like a VIP, even when their other customers were movie stars and NFL football players. High class. Too bad I can't afford to stay there again.

No, it needs to be said. I should do a post on places I shop and places I don't shop. for instance, I shop at OSH instead of Home Depot because Home Depot's customer service sucks big time and OSH's is pretty good.

Raley's has good customer service. Albertson's is awful. If I get bad customer service, I won't shop there. I'll pay 10% more just to get decent customer service.

Zombie said it right on, and there is a lot of wisdom in those words. I took a small business class, and the number one way they said to compete with the big guys is to offer hands down better service. People do place a premium on it, and I hear it more and more that people are sick of the bad ones.

ZS--Yes that would be a good post...which is what I've grown to expect from you. You do get what you pay for, but it's a shame one isn't ENTITLED to good customer from a service related industry. I'm not familiar with Raleys and Albertson since I live on the east coast. I'm assuming they are on the west coast. :)

Scott--True; products and services are not what seperates establishments, customer service does. But when you're in a small town and you don't want to travel to find another establishment, well then you're stuck. Competetion is good for customer service. :)
