I guess you guys already knew these existed, but I didn't...stupid, naive, ideological me. Electromagnetic Pulse Bombs; no "ka boom!", just silence and darkness.

It's a rather lengthy read, but note numbers 9 and 12.
You can bet your sweet bippy that Russia has this technology and is, or has already given it the radical Islamic community. Such an unholy alliance but hey, they need oil too.(she wrote with a sarcastic scowl)
"Nuclear war would really set cable back."
Ted Turner
No duh Ted, try one of these EPB's on for size. It'll set you back to the 1800's.

EMP is what Morpheus and folks from Zion used to kill the little robotic octopus things in the Matrix.
I'm not sure the danger is as bad as was once feared - the real danger would come from someone capable of taking advantage of our defenses immediately after an EMP attack. Not many people have the capabilities necessary to take that advantage.
I wouldn't worry about terrorists and EMP. If it weren't for cell phones and the internet, they would just be a bunch of really pissed off cavemen, and they know it.
I'm with Mark on that one, but one fear that strikes me is that we are certainly more vulnerable to a radical change of lifestyle were some kind of attack like that happened. Without electricity, we are just a bunch of cavemen too, without any of the survival talent.
Nice thing about this is the delivery is the hardest part. Nice thing we shared our ICBM technologies with China. Now they can work on this technology and destroy our infrastructure.
It's bad enough we outsourced our middle class to China and India. Why are we sharing our weapons technologies with them too is beyond me.
Mark--I never saw the Matrix, although I should have, Keanu Reaves is in it and that is a reason within itself. (Bless his heart, he can't act, but he's nice to look at).
I guess my concern is with substaning our existance. I fear the river runs far deeper than just the loss of electtricity. For those sustaned by electronic devices such as, ventilators, oxygen, defibrilators, its a death sentence. Not to mention the fact that mass transit will completely fail. I hate to think of planes falling out ot the sky. Just the ramifications of that happening for just a few days or hours would be apocalyptic. Okay I'll stop...I'm bumming myself out. "Without cell phones and the internet, they're just a bunch of really pissed off cavemen." hehe, They're not so scary when you put it that way. ((hugs))
Scott-- Cavemen? I don't want to be a caveman...oops cavewoman, I guess political correctness holds no weight if you're cromagnum. Anyway I couldn't live without watching my CSI, and Nip Tuck. Okay maybe I could, but I don't want to go there. Your point proven...no survival talents. lol Congrats on your new job, I hope it's going great. ((hugs))
Zombie--Oh wow! I forgot about China, no doubt what you're saying will happen. Do you read the Parade? It's the little magazine in the sunday paper. Anyway, every year the Parade lists the most politically dangerous and lecherous dictators in the world. China's ranks I believe in the top 5. There ya go a little ray of hope sprinkled in your morning oatmeal. It's possible that the impending zombie plague will hit us before then. Ha!
((hugs))
