Thrice As Nice

All I've talked about in my series of Sappy, Sensitive, Singers are men, now I've got to give props to the ladies. I had written this a while back and had it saved as a draft. Well, I know everyone is hanging on my every word.(sarcasm);) So here's my pick.

The lovely and talented Alison Krauss, sure you may have heard of her or you may not have. If not, then you may be living under a rock. Alison got her start in Bluegrass, and she remains primarily a Bluegrass musician. That's what I like about her, she stuck to her roots. Blessed with an ethereal voice, she could have performed any kind of music, but she stayed true BLUE. Ha! She and her band Union Station helped revive public interest in Bluegrass music with their wonderful performances in the movie, Oh Brother, Where Art Thou? Dan Tyminsky, the guitarist for Union station sang for George Cloony's character in the film. Alison paired with Sting for the movie Cold Mountain for which, they performed the movie's signet song, My Ain True Love...simply beautiful. She also performed with Brad Paisly in a classic country ballad Whiskey Lullaby. One line in that song which epitomizes Country music, "He put that bottle to his head and pulled the trigger," good stuff.

Alison Krauss is truly a talented singer who's sure make you think twice about bluegrass and Country music.

You can learn more and listen here.

This concludes my series, I know you'll miss it, but life goes on. ;P

I agree she has the voice of an angel. My wife can pick her out of any song that she sings harmonies for. She and Vince Gill I think sang backup in a Mark Chesnutt song, It's Not Over If I'm Not Over You. Something like that. I hated her version of Keith Whitley's classic, but I'm biased because Whitley is one of my favorites.

Your wife seems to have a good ear for music, does she sing?

As for Keith Whitley, Country music lost one hell of a song writer when he died. I notice you have his song, "No Stranger To the Rain," as a tag/tag line on your blog. Tag line, I don't know if that's the correct term...but it is a songwriting term. Either way, you know what I mean. ;)
