Back from my mini vacation. I had a wonderful time, although, I wish I had had more time to visit with my friend Mary. I didn't even get in a proper chat. I logged over 700 miles on my little hoopty car over the past three days. What have I learned through the experience? Never let a 10 year old be your navigator. Ha! My daughter did her best and was quite honored when I appointed her to her position.
Finally, we arrived at the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games, and wouldn't you know it half way through my picture taking fury, my battery ran out. I had just charged it overnight. Go figure. Technology and I are very unsteady friends. I did take pictures of the event and I did get to see Albannach, one of my favorite bands. To hear them is to like them, to see them performing is to love them. Even though they are missing their original leader/band member, they still make you want to get up and dance.
Dance is what they did in the quasi-mosh pit in which I was standing. But oh, thank you Mary for saving me a spot so close that I could catch Jamsies' sweat as he was flinging himself about. Oh yeah! You can't help but feel the rhythm and chant the rhyme while they're playing.
My daughter and I sat down and watched the caber toss, hay toss, and whatever that thing is that I call a ball on a cord. Ha! Anyway, she was not interested in the Scottish dancing competition, or the piping competition. Instead, she was enthralled by the pole vaulting competition. I was enthralled by something entirely different, but we won't get into that now. (wicked Moni!) :p
All in all, it was a nice trip; just too short.
And how was your weekend?
BTW--Mary, Breezy says the lyrics go:
Grigolie, Grigolou
Come up and fight ye cowardly crew.
I'll ha yea for my pot o' stew.
Ya feart ta fight wi me. (probably not correct) ;)

The Albannach/ Highland festival photos are among all of my NC trip photos. I didn't get too many of Albannach this time since our vantage point at the show wasn't the greatest for picture taking. So I had to do some editing on the shots I did get! Hope you enjoy them!
P.S. Bree's translation of the lyrics sound right to me...she's got a good memory!
Oops! It looks like the full address to my photo album didn't show up in my previous post. Just you click on the link on my name and it should take you to the address!
Wow! Mary your pictures are way better than mine. You see people's heads in mine.
I loved your pictures it looks like you had a very good time on your trip through NC.
Next year I plan on staying 4 days instead of just the two, so we'll have time to visit. Plus, I felt like all I did was drive. lol
((hugs))
I like the new look. I'm glad you had fun at the Games. I'll be going to our local ones in August. Can't wait!
